... a word from the principal

With the 2008/09 school year off to a great start, it’s time to look at what’s ahead for the elementary school this fall. To begin with, we have already started our annual Elliot Bay Fundraiser. The fundraiser began September 24th with a kick-off assembly in the multi-purpose room for all elementary students. The representative from Elliot Bay had an opportunity to review the importance of following necessary safety precautions before giving catalogs and order forms to the students. The fundraiser ends Wednesday, October 8. Funds raised help pay for playground equipment, field trips, assemblies, scholarships, teaching supplies, and, most recently the new electronic reader board.
The reader board purchase was made possible through a combination of Parent Group funds, a generous donation from a community member, and a $5000 grant from Lowe’s. The reader board is scheduled to be installed and operational by late October.

On September 22nd we started the After-school Homework Club. This is the earliest our after-school program has been able to start in over eight years. Due to limited funds in past years, we have needed to wait until winter to start this program. Fortunately, the Kittitas School Board has provided the elementary school with necessary I-728 funds to provide this program for the whole school year. If you believe your child should attend the after-school club, contact the elementary office or your child’s teacher directly at 968-3014.

For those of you who would like another opportunity for your son or daughter to have their pictures taken, Parsons will return on Monday, October 13, for picture retakes. They will be at the elementary school in the morning. Then they will provide an opportunity for siblings to get pictures taken before finishing up at the secondary school.

Our Scholastic Book Fair Safari is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 15, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., and continue Monday through Friday of conference week, November 17–21, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Mrs. Leta Davis will once again be coordinating the fair for the elementary school. If you are willing to help with this event, please contact Leta at leerdavis@elltel.net. I hope you get a chance to stop by and visit.
